Women in Music By The Numbers
NPR Music asked women musicians to tell them a little about themselves. 700 responded with 63% saying they played music full time. They shared a variety of insights including regular dismissal by male sound engineers, as well as, who there role models are. Favorties: 33 cited Joni Mitchell, 20 Janis Joplin, 15 Madonna, 14 Patti Smith, 11 Lady Gaga and 2 Miley Cyrus. Interstingly, some geopgrahic regions seem to spawn and attract more women musician than others:
