Old-School Major Label Executive Knows His Stuff
In just about any good rant on the record industry, a reader can expect to find two elements. First, that record labels are evil empires that prey on our children and sell them the image of Hannah Montana. Second, that they’re run by a bunch of old and struggling dinosaurs that have no idea what they’re doing. They’re trapped in a tar pit and have about as much chance for survival as a baby Tyrannosaurus. Jac Holzman, founder of Electra Records, is not one of those cases. In this video, he rather lucidly describes how to market music and why the industry is changing.
