Microsoft’s Bing Control’s 30% Of Search & Why You Should Care
It's a basic rule of marketing. Customers (fans) need to be able to find you; and in the internet age that means search engines. Until now that meant where you show up on Google search. But a new Experian Hitwise numbers show that Microsoft's Bing now controls 30.01% of U.S. search" 14.32% from Bing.com and 15.69% from Yahoo Search which Bing powers. Google still controls 64.42% of the U.S. search, down 10% since August. Almost overnight., where you rank in Bing search results matters.
That growth may continue because people like the results they get on Bing. 81.14% of Yahoo Search and 80.32% of Bing.com users clicked on a search result. In contrast, Google users only click 65.91% of the time.
What can a music marketer do?
Start by periodically checking results in both search engine and note which sites show up at the top of each. Now, be sure to keep top results from both sources updated. I've also had some luck with Google ads. Our booking agency Skyline Music had not been showing up near the top of the Google search page for our own name. (On Bing, we're the top result.) But an ad that costs just $25 a month now appears at the top of Google searches for "skyline music" and "skyline agency" ensuring that the company is easy to find.
QUESTION: Without using questionable SEO trickery, what strategies do use to keep your results at the top of search engine results?
