Kayne West & Russell Simmons Visit Occupy Wall Street Protest

image from www.splashnewsonline.comThe Occupy Wall Street protesters recieved a a little dose of celebrity on Monday with Kanye West and Russell Simmons stopped in.

According to DNAinfo.com, West didn't perform, but walked with an escort through the throng of protesters. Not everyone was thrilled to see the performers and one reportedly shouted, "There are no celebrities, just people."

"I'm happy to pay a little more taxes if it means better education for our children," Simmons said later that day during an appearance on the Al Sharpton show, which was being broadcast from the park. "I don't pay enough taxes and I know it."

Simmons and West provided a touch of cognitive dissonance to the protests, which have occupied Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan for almost a month. Both West and Russell have espoused extravagant wealth and lavish lifestyles in their music while the protestors are dissenting against the perceived corruption of corporate America.  via Celebrity Access
