James Dolan Brings His Tangled Web Of Influence To Live Nation Board

image from www.google.com (UPDATED) The twisted web that is Live Nation becomes more tangled with the addition of James Dolan to its board. Dolan is executive chairman of Madison Square Garden which owns concert venues (Radio City Music Hall, The Beacon Theater, The Chicago Theater), sports teams (Knicks and Rangers) and media outlets (MSG Network and cable music channel Fuse). He's also CEO of Cablevision Systems, a director of AMC Networks, and the singer and guitarist for blues band JD and the Straight Shot. To try to keep his addition to the board something close to legal, Live Nation passed some unusual resolutions:

  • Dolan has been freed from any obligation to present corporate opportunities to the company except in limited circumstances.
  • He's also not obligated "to refrain from competing with, investing in competitors of, or negotiating on behalf of other entities against, Live Nation."

At board meetings, Dolan will be at the table with Irving Azoff, who just happens to manage many of the acts that Live Nation promotes and profits even more from by selling all their concert tickets via its company owned Ticketmaster outlets.
