Facebook Relaunches Its Music Page (0r) How To Build A Boring Facebook Page
Facebook launched its Music page for musicians, music related businesses and fans back in early 2008 and then pretty much left it alone. Now, just as musician focused Facebook apps from DamnTheRadio, ReverbNation, RootMusic and a handful of others are gaining major traction, the social network has decided it's time to reconnect with the music community. Here's what Facebook Music is offering:
The Music on Facebook pages serve as a guide to help bands, fans and venues create more interesting Facebook pages. For musicians, Facebook Music has highlighted free features including the ability to:
- Send updates about tours and concerts
- Showcase new releases
- Engage with fans
- Upload photos from concerts
There are similar tools and suggestions for venues and fans, as well as, instructions for linking to a Twitter account and posting to Facebook via text message.
The result is a more robust presence than the normal Bacebook Page, but still falls far short of features like additonal graphic elements or music and video that ReverbNation, DamnTheRadio and RootMusic offer free or for a couple of dollars a month.
