Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock recently you’ve heard that the hip hop comunity has birthed a new Protege. he is no stranger to the eyes of Tweens since his first gig was that of a handicapped student in Degarassi High. But now, he’s expanded his reach, by rapping with Lil Wayne and […]

Come on shawty. Where you at?
I heard this song today for what could easily be the millionth time since it came out last year. It was a massive radio and club hit and by now most people are a over it. But every time I hear it I get chills over Lil Mama's part. So I'm wondering, where the heck IS Lil Mama?
Her performance on this track is one of the best I've ever heard in hip-hop. Her ultra-tight syncopations against the beat and her street 'I don't give a F$%&!' attitude are perfectly executed. So why is she not on the top of the R&B and Pop charts?
Here's the track. Let me know what you think before someone makes me take it down. It's a good way to kick off the weekend.
TURN IT UP!
Jay Z ft. Kanye West & Rihanna – “Run This Town”
I barley ever review comerical records on this blog, but this may be as legendary of a collaboration that we will see all year. The return of Rhianna alone, is worth giving this one a quick listen. Granted I never judge a Jay Z verse in the first 3 weeks after its been released, as […]

Two of hip hop’s most hardcore lyricists team up to deliver the lead in track to the star studded movie soundtrack, “A Talent For Trouble“. The film was written and produced by Marvis “Buck 50” Johnson and stars the likes of Hassan Johnson (“The Wire”), Mekhi Phifer (“ER”) and Brandon T. Jackson (“Tropic Thunder”).
Discovery – “So Insane”
So Insane is a meeting of minds between Vampire Weekend’s Rostam and Wes from Ra Ra Riot. It sounds like one of the evangelical moments from the former’s debut album, with a heavy debt to electro eighties pop. It stops and starts and heads off in different directions so many times it sounds like a […]

Mickey Factz – “Flying Balloons” (Prod. by Cookin Soul)
Chances are you have seen the classic, “3 Feet High and Rising” album cover from hip-hop vagabonds, De La Soul. Just recently, blatant blogger, Nahright and budding producer, Cookin Soul, got together to create their own collection of meaningful hip hop music. For all the grief I give to the rap game, hearing this record, […]

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009)
As I traveled down Route 22 on Friday listening to “Wanna Be Starting Something”, I stopped at a traffic light, and looked down at my Twitter stream. The update from @BreakingNews read, “Michael Jackson, ‘The King of Pop’ has suffered a cardiac arrest in his home”. I almost pulled over on the most dangerous highway […]
